Rooflight Blinds

Rooflights and atria glazing require a blind that can operate at different angles and planes and be suitable for the harsh environment this application invariably brings.

The size and shape of the glazing will determine the types of blinds that may be suitable.

Low level, small rooflights can be screened using a variety of blind styles included, pleated, cellular roller, venetian, Pinoleum and non-retractable systems and even shutters.

For larger glazed areas such as atria tensioned roller blind systems, sometimes called fabric tensioned systems are often used. These systems incorporate a motor at either end of the glazing and these pull the blind into place. When the blind is stopped the motors turn gently in opposite directions to tension the cloth and reduce sag.

Atria can also be shaded with non-retractable blinds which incorporate slats which can be tilted to vary the amount of light entering the space. These blinds can be operated by electric motors.
With motorisation there is an extensive range of options from wired to wireless switching and automatic operation via timers, building management systems or environmental sensors.

Choice of system and the materials used is essential to manage the heat and light gain entering through the glazing and the blind and it is recommended a BBSA member is consulted with these types of blinds.
