Roller blinds

Roller blinds are one of the most versatile blind styles suitable for all types of windows and with a wide range of fabrics and finishes

Modern roller blinds are typically made using an aluminium roller barrel around which the roller fabric itself is wound. Operation is typically by a continuous chain at one side of the blind or spring operation where the blind is pulled into position by a short cord or a handle.

Roller blinds easily lend themselves to motorisation with the motor neatly concealed within the roller barrel. Motorisation can be by 240v motor, 24v motor and there are even battery operated motors.

Roller blinds can be used on very small windows up to large picture windows and full height glazing.

When it comes to fabrics roller blinds probably have the largest range of all blind styles from whites and creams to bright colours, plains to patterns, jacquard woven and relief, highly transparent through to black-out, printed finishes and even digital printed images. Some materials have special coatings to make them resistant to mould and bacteria, render them flame retardant or improve rejection of heat in the summer and reduce heat loss in the winter.

The range of decorative finishes on roller blinds is equally extensive with different finishing shapes like scallops or castellated with different braids, pulls and even fabric eyelets and other adornments.

See information on window blind safety here.

Roller blinds are also known as roller shades, spring operated blinds.
